The Maurya Empire was a geographically extensive Iron Age historical power founded by Chandragupta Maurya which dominated the Indian subcontinent between 322 and 185 BCE.
At its zenith under the reign of Ashoka, the empire stretched along the natural boundary of the Himalayas, to the east into Assam, to the west into what is present-day Balochistan, Pakistan and the Hindu Kush mountains of what is now eastern Afghanistan.
The Maurya dynasty built the Grand Trunk Road, one of Asia's oldest and longest trade networks, connecting the Indian subcontinent with Central Asia.
Chandragupta Maurya's embrace of Jainism increased socio-religious reform across South Asia, while Ashoka's embrace of Buddhism and sponsorship of Buddhist missionaries allowed for the expansion of that faith from Asia to all the way to Europe
While they have no siege units, they do have access to three different elephant units including the Worker Elephant, a mobile dropsite that can also repair buildings.
They are currently unfinished but playable and as of alpha 13, have had their buildings fleshed out and still under development.
Civilization Traits[]
- They have infantry with poor spearmen, excellent archers and decent swordsmen but lack skirmishers
- Their cavalry is decent, but they specialize in elephant units being the few civilizations that possess a "Cavalry Archer" class unit and have access to mobile dropsites
- They have a decent to excellent navy.
- They lack all forms of siege weaponry, their war elephants should fulfill this role instead due to their melee crush damage.
- more once they're completed!
Civilization Bonus[]
- Chakravarti Samrāt (Emperor of Emperors)
- History: The Maurya Empire encompassed dozens of formerly independent kingdoms over an area of 5 million square kilometers, with a population of close to 60 million people. The Maurya regents held the title "Emperor of Emperors" and commanded a standing army of 600,000 infantry, 9000 elephants, 8000 chariots, and 30,000 cavalry, making it arguably the largest army of its time.
